IPL Permanent Hair Reduction FAQ's
All clients are required to have a consultation and test patch prior to commencing treatment, including those who have had treatments in the past with other clinics or with us, if months have gone by or we have never test patched that area before.
At this appointment, we will discuss treatment options, pre and aftercare, and pricing, along with performing a test patch in the areas you wish to have treated.
Even if you have had treatments in the past, this process must be performed first, it is not only a safety requirement for yourself but a legal insurance requirement for the clinic.
We follow the strictest guidelines for your safety and to ensure you have an efficacious treatment.
Q. What is SHR hair removal?
A. SHR is the latest in state-of-the-art Intense Pulsed Light Treatments (IPL) and is able to deliver pain-free permanent hair removal, in as little as half the time of standard IPL. By gradually heating the hair follicle our SHR treatments disrupt the hair follicle's growth, so you can look forward to a lifetime of smooth skin with only occasional maintenance required. Say goodbye to a lifetime of waxing, shaving, and plucking!
Q. Is IPL hair removal right for me?
A. While SHR IPL works best on darker shades of hair, it can work on lighter shades. Your clinician will provide a detailed assessment during your consultation. White, grey, red and blonde hair with little no pigment, unfortunately, cannot be treated with this hair removal method, however we also offer E-light and advanced methods to help with those.
Q. Can you treat white or red hair?
A. We can, however, we need to treat this differently as white hairs reflect light and red hair cannot be seen by red light (the color used for hair reduction). In these cases for fine vellus hair, white, grey or red hair we treat using another method, however, results are not as good as other hair colors.
Q. How many treatments does it take?
A. This depends on your individual hair type. Most clients require a minimum of 6 treatments with an average of 8-10 sessions for the body and 10 - 12 for the face to achieve brilliant results. Hair reduces and becomes finer from the very first treatment. For some, an occasional maintenance treatment may be required, usually 1 treatment every 6 months. Those with hormonal issues and men may require more treatments and more maintenance sessions.
Q. How does it feel?
A. SHR IPL hair removal is a pain-free treatment, involving the application of heat to the skin which will cause a warming sensation. A cooling system is used throughout treatment to enhance your comfort. The feeling of a flicking sensation or heat may be felt.
Q. I’ve had my first hair removal session. When can I come back for my next one?
A. SHR IPL hair removal treatments must be conducted at intervals and this varies depending on the area getting treated. As an example, the face may be treated at 4-6 weekly intervals, the body every 6 - 8 weeks. Our highly trained staff will design a hair removal treatment plan specifically for you, so you can achieve optimum results.
Q. How do I prepare for treatment?
A. Pre IPL Treatment Recommendations (Hair Removal)
Do not wax, pluck, use depilatory creams or undertake electrolysis for 4 weeks prior to treatment, and in between treatments
Do not use prescription strength exfoliant creams (Retin-A and Alpha Hydroxy) for 2 weeks prior to treatment
Do not shave for up to 2 weeks prior to your test patch appointment. Please shave the night before all subsequent treatments
Q. What will it be like for me after treatment?
A. There may be some mild heat and redness in areas that have been treated. Wear loose clothing to your appointment so the heat is not trapped in the treatment area post-treatment.
Soothe any redness and sensitivity with our Medi Soothe Lotion, this will continue to draw heat out of the skin and keep the area cool and hydrated. Medi Soothe can be applied liberally for 3-5 days or until the skin has returned to its pre-treatment state approximately 2 days post-treatment up to 4 times per day with clean hands.
Avoid shaving, waxing, or plucking hair, exfoliation, excessive sweating, swimming or saunas, very hot showers, perfumed pro, and tight restrictive clothing for 24 hours post-treatment.
It is advised to avoid exposing the area to direct sunlight after your treatment and always use SPF in the treated areas.
Q. How do I book a treatment?
A. First you will need to book a consultation and test patch.
This not only ensures an efficacious treatment, as well as a safe treatment for you but is also a requirement for our insurance. Even if you have had treatments elsewhere, each machine is different, so a consultation and test patch are still required.
If you choose to purchase a package of treatments at the time of your consultation, your consult fee is waived. To book your consult click the Book Now link at the top of the page or call us on 0492 855 715.
